TASK REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS RELEVANT:
 Option 1 Written Response (Script) 1100 words.
 Option 2 Visual Response (Trailer) 2-3 minutes
A trailer must be submitted in a viewable format or late penalties will be applied.
If working in pairs – Only one trailer should be submitted per pair. Students must submit an individual rationale. Both
students will be penalised in the event of a late submission. Both students must make an equal contribution to the trailer.
Students may choose to bring in cameras, props and costumes of their own as long as they take full responsibility for all
equipment. The school will not be liable for loss or damage to these items.
 A rationale of 700 words is to be provided with option 1 and option 2. In the rationale, the student must explain the purpose
and audience for their piece and the context within which it is set. It must include a discussion on the language/visual
techniques used to engage audiences and analysis key Gothic conventions and motifs included.
 If a student uses any material from another source, they must cite it and provide a bibliography. The Harvard system is
agreed practice for referencing.
 Only one draft may be submitted to the class teacher at least three (3) days before the due date.
TASK DESCRIPTION:
Students are to choose to complete either a written or visual
Option 1: Written Response (Script)
 Students are to write a script for a scene from an original Gothic film/television series/video game. The script must
demonstrate the use of Gothic Conventions and motifs as studied in class. Students must work individually and maintain the
integrity of the tone and context established. They must ensure they adhere to the conventions of script writing as
instructed in class.
 Students should proofread their writing, looking at their content as well as their use of language (vocabulary, spelling,
punctuation) and language techniques.
Option 2: Visual Response (Trailer)
 Students are to create a trailer for an original Gothic film/television series/video game. The trailer must demonstrate the use
of Gothic Conventions and motifs as studied in class. Students may work in pairs and must ensure maintain the integrity of
the tone and context established. Students are to concentrate on conveying identified conventions and motifs and are
encouraged to attempt this task only if they have some competence in presenting this text type.
If the trailer was done in pairs the rationale is to be written individually.
 Both options require a 700 word rationale.
TASK SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
 The assessment is to be submitted in hard copy by 3.30pm of the due date. Email submission is not acceptable unless the
student is absent from school, in which case an electronic copy will suffice until the student can submit a hardcopy on their
return to school.
All written work is to be submitted via the link provided on Canvas to Turnitin
 Assessment tasks must be accompanied by a signed copy of the Assessment Task Cover Sheet – Declaration of Original Work,
which is available on Canvas. The coversheet should also have a receipt from Turnitin attached.
